What We Do

Advancing Research

Raising Awareness

Building A Community

UbiquiMed bridges the gap in research accessibility for underserved communities by connecting medical students with researchers from low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). Since the COVID-19 pandemic, travel restrictions have made it harder for students to pursue global health opportunities. By pairing students in the U.S. and Canada, who have access to key institutional resources, with LMIC researchers, we aim to produce high-quality research and promote equitable healthcare worldwide. Our mission is to ensure that medical advancements benefit all populations, fostering collaboration and innovation for a more just global health system.

We invite guest speakers to speak to our community members about topics related to global health. We also provide a platform for students to present their research projects or any topics they would like to share with us. Our dedicated volunteers give talks at universities and conferences to inspire more of our medicine colleagues to become more passionate about improving healthcare around the world.

One of UbiquiMed's main goals is to provide a community of like-minded medical professionals who are passionate about global health and who can inspire each other to continue contributing to the field. Our community members remain active with each other through various platforms, sharing their current research and ideas for future projects.

How Does It Work?

Our dedicated volunteers work tirelessly to match medical students with researchers based on their shared interests.

If you are a medical student interested in pursuing a global-health related research project, you can sign up on our website and join our community. We collect information such as what languages you speak, your research/clinical interests, and your prior research experience in order to best match you with an appropriate investigator.

If you are a clinical investigator interested in working with one of our talented medical students, you can sign up on our website and join our community.

We check in regularly with our medical students to receive updates on their projects, and once a project is complete, we are proud to share it with the rest of our community. We also welcome students and medical experts to share their experiences and present their current research topics, and are happy to provide you with a platform to present to our community members.

We also hold regular virtual meetings and lecture series for our members to share more about the research they are conducting. Our newsletter provides updates on the outstanding work our students and mentors are conducting, and is a great opportunity to learn more about global health.

Current Projects

Our community members have been paired with researchers working on a wide array of important clinical projects. These include observational studies, systematic reviews and meta-analyses, perspective/opinion pieces, and case reports. Here are just a few of our ongoing projects:

Investigating methods to improve detection of dermatologic pathologies in patients with darker skin tones

Exploring the use of drone technology to deliver medical supplies in conflict areas

Assessing the need for telepsychiatric services in refugee camps with limited medical staffing

Exploring Barriers to Vaccine Access and Acceptance in Immigrant Populations

Exploring the Influence of Religious Beliefs on Maternal Choices between Vaginal Birth and Cesarean Section, and the Subsequent Outcomes
